About Us

Exciting First Assembly

First Assembly is an authentic passionate group of people with a vision to connect, serve, and grow in our community as we love God and love people.

Our Story

First Assembly of God has a rich heritage, and you can see the hand of God throughout its history.

In 1933 Albert Ott conducted the first full gospel meetings in Waxahachie at the old JC Penney’s building. From that revival a church was started and began to meet in a tent on the 100 block of Ferris Ave. The church later purchased the Old Baptist Tabernacle at 433 Monroe Street. Pastor H.E. Darnell brought the congregation into the Assemblies of God in 1943 and called it First Assembly of God. Later Pastor Darnell tore down the Old Tabernacle and built a new building at 433 Monroe.  Pastor Darnell also started a strong radio ministry during his pastorate.

Pastor H.W. Totten came in 1950 and pastored until 1954 when Pastor B.F. Hickman became pastor. The church’s radio ministry continued through Bro. Hickman’s ministry until it was moved to KCLE, Cleburne.

In 1959 Rev. L. W. Dollar became pastor and completed a remodel of the church. Later he led the church into the purchase of a tract of land on the projected 287 bypass, which included the present location of the church and the subdivision east of the church. Under Pastor Dollar’s leadership a new church building was erected, and the facility was dedicated on September 5, 1971.

Rev Ray Griffith pastored the church from 1976-78. He left after he was elected to be the District Youth Director of the North Texas District.

Pastor Rennie Baker was elected pastor in 1979 and served until his retirement in 2017, completing 38 years of faithful service. During his pastorate a daycare (King’s Kids Daycare) and school (Cornerstone Christian School) was established. First Assembly also established church plants in Ferris and Itasca that are still active today. The current church building was rebuilt after a tornado in 1994.

Pastor Carl Richard, the present pastor, was elected in 2017. In 2019 he oversaw an interior remodel of the church facilities. Under his pastorate world missions endeavors and support have greatly increased and First Assembly Waxahachie has been enabled by the Lord to establish two churches in Albania that are thriving.

We are thankful for the Lord’s hand of blessing on First Assembly and we anticipate great things for the future of First Assembly Waxahachie as we continue to work to build His Kingdom together for His glory!
